Statement Issued to Clarify the Status of Squaw Valley Water Treatment

Residents of the Placer County area will be well aware of how much of an impact recent storms have had on the area. Several locations within Placer County have had disruptions in their water supply due to the extent of recent rainstorms. Residents might also be aware that the Squaw Valley resort area has been affected by the weather as well. Liesl Kenney, the Public Relations Director for Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows, has issued a statement to help inform the public as to their current situation.

 

Kenney stressed that the safety of guests is paramount. And much of the statement had to do with methods that are being used to ensure the safety and security of guests while still allowing them to have a great time in Squaw Valley. Kenney began by laying out the fact that no guests had been exposed to tainted water. This is in large part due to the swift actions of Squaw Valley when the storms effects first become noticeable. Squaw Valley quickly contacted Placer County Environmental Health and the Squaw Valley Public Service District. They were able to quickly escalate the process of determining just what might be going wrong and the root cause of the problem.

 

The immediate issue seemed to be due to inundation of a new water system which had been installed during the summer. Of course tracking down the weakest point hit during the storm was only part of the process. From that point Squaw Valley began a water treatment plan to fully purify any and all public facing water supplies.

 

So far the progress has been quite promising. E. Coli is now totally eliminated from the Squaw Valley water supply. Meanwhile, coliform is still showing up at detectable levels in some of the wells. However, it’s showing up at low levels and the treatment is showing promising results.

 

While the treatment process is ongoing guests will be provided with complimentary bottled water. The amount of water required for cooking means that the restaurant services will need to remain closed for the duration of the water treatment. But other than these small changes, the public should be aware that Squaw Valley is still operating normally. Guests can still look forward to the same fun in a scenic natural landscape that they’ve always been able to enjoy.
